REDESIGN YOUR WORKSPACE IN 3 STEPS WITH COACHING DESIGN

What does redesign mean to you? How is your workspace influencing the achievement of your goals?

Throughout life, we experience a biological growth process that has to do with: increase of cells, renewal of tissues and even modification of existing structures. But we do not only undergo biological changes in our lives. We also experience changes in consciousness. During our lives, we are exposed to situations where we decide whether something affects us in a positive or a negative way. We need to undergo changes and take decisions in order to achieve our growth. In short, we have to continuously redesign ourselves.

I am sure that due to the confinement many of us had to face new situations. Maybe you had to work at home, which is a totally different scenario than your office. Maybe it was difficult to focus yourself, or perhaps you felt unbalanced and unable to reach your goals. Do you feel identified? If you would like to redesign your interior space and increase your personal balance and professional effectivity, this blog is for you. If this is not your case, don’t worry, reading this blog can also help you to just improve your space. Just remember that now and then we need to make changes to continue growing.

Today in our Coach Design work studio, we want to share with you three important steps to follow when working on the redesign of your workspace. You do not need to invest a lot of money. Most of the resources you have at your fingertips. Try to reuse objects and give them a touch of your own personality. So sit back, take a coffee and join us in a thoughtful and creative way.

First step utility (function - current space relationship)

In this step I will ask you to take a seat at your workplace. Please adopt a comfortable posture. Now carefully focus your thoughts on the following questions:

·         How do I feel about my work?

·         To what level am I satisfied with my work?

·         What have I done so far to achieve my dreams and goals?

Just observe and reflect a moment about your current work situation.

To continue, I will ask you to stand in front of your desk or workspace in an observer position and answer the following questions.

·         How do I feel about my physical space?

·         What effect does it have on me?

·         Does it meet my needs?

·         How would I like my work area to be?

·         What would my ideal chair be like?

·         If I had to change something, what would I change?

·         What items on my desk are useful for the work I am doing?

Many of us accumulate things on our work table. This can be a problem for your concentration. You can feel uncomfortable, distracted and it can even reduce your work performance. In this first step, the objective is to identify and select the things that are useful for you. If it’s of no use, simply remove it from there.

Second step firmness (stability, goals)

In this step, with the help of a pencil and paper, draw six circles. Place and answer one question in each circle in the following order.

o What are my values?

o What are my types of beliefs?

o Are they limiting or empowering me?

o What is the purpose of my life?

or Who am I?

or Who would I like to be?

Now, on a next page write and reflect on the current state you are in right now:

• On a scale of one to ten, what level am I currently at?

• What am I doing now that validates my current score?

• What have I stopped doing up to now to validate my current score?

• Where would I like to be in two months compared to my score on the scale?

• What am I aware of?

• What do I have to do from now on to achieve it?

These questions will help you get a clearer and stronger perspective of who you are, what you have, and what you want to achieve.

In addition, to reflect on yourself, you should also take your time to think about your behavior within your physical space. Sometimes we can spend hours and hours working and forget about a short break. How could you achieve a balance between work and your health? Perhaps sitting somewhere else within your space will help you disconnect for a few minutes and then return with renewed energy. You can take advantage of it to breathe, eat a fruit, stretch your legs. You decide what works best for you.

Third step Beauty (aesthetic value - sensations)

Finally, this last step consists of linking your action plan to your aesthetic physical space. With the help of design elements: color, artifact, style, lighting, you will be able to create your points of positive stimulation. But first you must discern intelligently the resources that add value to you. This will be a fundamental piece to climb to the next desired level. You can start by defining, how you could improve and optimize your space with the resources that you have at your fingertips.

·         How is your work style?

·         How would you define your own aesthetic style?

·         Do you have enough lighting to work or you have to strain your eyes?

You must also consider that we are exposed to finding positive or negative anchors in our environment. Anchors connect us with memories of lived situations that can be pleasant or unpleasant experiences. They can be represented as something tangible or intangible. For example: music, artifact, fragrance, colors. In order to get the best out of your anchors when decorating your workspace, you will need to identify those positive anchors that activate you and positively influence your desired emotional state.

Remember that the key to MAKING CHANGE is to take a FIRST STEP.

Well! Now that you have this three-step Coaching Design tool. Let's get to work!
